Artist Statement
My current art is reflective of life's impermanence and the desire to capture fleeting moments. I am fascinated by reducing figurative gestures to simple tilts of the head or shoulder angles to reflect a mood or a relationship with other forms. The more simple figurative forms evolve while the paintings are being created and they seem to each develop individual characters on their own.
Having grown up the San Francisco Bay Area, I feel a strong influence of the local atmosphere upon my work. The tonal colors and grays are enticing when partially obscuring forms in the fog. These elements become abstracted and simplified in that environment as I strive to resolve tensions between contrasting aspects in my paintings. The process of covering and exposing is always an exciting part of the process.
In my finished work, I strive to bring a sense of balance and harmony to a piece while it also partially reveals more dynamic elements.
It is my intention that my art has a positive influence on the viewer.
