VIDA collaborates with artists to design unique clothing available online. VIDA is a global partnership of co-creators that has respect for those who manufacture the clothing.

Their website states, "We believe in respecting the makers of products we bring into our lives." VIDA provides literacy programs for the makers, so they can learn to read, write and do basic math."

I feel honored and proud to be part of VIDA!

RESPECT FOR MAKERS OF PRODUCTS AT HEART OF BUSINESS

I wrote an article on Art Talk Now about my positive experience designing for VIDA.

The founder, Umaimah Mendhro, also had the vision for the Dreamfly, a global initiative designed to educate, expose, and empower people living in communities of conflict. The San Francisco–based organization's areas of work include India, Pakistan, Colombia, and Rwanda. Jill Radsken from the Alumni Harvard Business interviewed Umaimah Mendhro in an article titled Creating Common Ground in Communities of Conflict .

Some of you may know that in I was a textile designer in San Francisco for ten years beginning the mid 90'. All of this is familiar and more fun! The print above has a finely detailed pen and ink drawing of leaves.

The two prints below are from photos that I took this spring.

Super Bloom in Death Valley and Joshua Tree

Walking at Joshua Tree National Park
A Super Bloom happens when there is plentiful rainfall after years of drought. We were able to see the best one in ten years this spring!

What makes the blooms in Death Valley spectacular is the fact that they come from what had the appearance of a field of rocks with few bushes. Many of the flowers are a foot or more apart so you have to get down and view at a little above ground level to make it more yellow. The contrast of the rock and the flowers is striking.

You can see my complete blog at the link below. We especially loved Joshua Tree National Park.

Joshua Tree National Park has always been one of our favorite places to visit, but this year with the huge blooms it was spectacular!
